SMS communications provide patients with an easy and accessible way to stay on top of their appointments and help ensure continuity of care.

A systematic literature review found that SMS reminders used in healthcare settings help shape healthy patient behaviours, reduce appointment no-shows, and improve compliance such as medication adherence, booking follow-up appointments.

“SMS messages are relatively inexpensive, easily customized, automatically sent directly to individuals, and a part of many individuals' daily life.”

With 4 out of every 5 appointments in Halaxy using an SMS reminder, rather than an email reminder, SMS reminders have become the default reminder option for practitioners.

When compared to email reminders, SMS reminders let you see which patients have confirmed or declined an appointment, as patient responses are automatically updated in your Halaxy Calendar and are free. Integrated responses are not available with email reminders.
