Integrate your Halaxy with Xero? You need to enable two-factor authentication (2FA)

For practices that integrate with Xero, two-factor authentication is compulsory from 30 September 2020, but we've secured a week extension for you.

It's important and urgent that you enable two-factor authentication to stay compliant (read more below) and keep accessing your Halaxy. But we've organised an extension for you of a week, so you have time to set it up by 7 October 2020.

Enabling two-factor authentication in Halaxy is extremely easy. It only takes a few seconds and helps secure your account.

Why do I need to set up two-factor authentication?
We've been advising users for the past few weeks that from today, 30 September 2020, the Australian Government requires all Halaxy users in practices that currently integrate with Xero accounting software to set up two-factor authentication to further protect their accounts when accessing Halaxy.

This means that all practitioners and administrators who can access your Halaxy account need to set up two-factor authentication to keep logging in to their accounts.

What's two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, is a layer of additional security you can add to your verification process when logging in to your Halaxy account (you can learn more in the blue box below).

FAQs | Two-factor authentication (2FA) in Halaxy

1. What's two-factor authentication (2FA)?

Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, is an extra layer of security for your Halaxy designed to ensure that you're the only person who can access your account, even if someone happens to find out your Halaxy password.

Two-factor authentication combines something you know (your password) with something you have (such as your mobile phone, email account, or Google Authenticator).

This means that even if someone manages to guess your password, they will be unable to log in to your Halaxy account unless they also have physical access to your personal authentication method.

2. Is two-factor authentication compulsory when using Halaxy?

Yes, all Halaxy members of practices that integrate with Xero will need to set up two-factor authentication (2FA is recommended but not compulsory for practices that don’t integrate with Xero).

Although this is something all users will need to do, this is good news for you and your practice, as two-factor authentication helps ensure the security of online accounts beyond just a username and password by using a second verification process.

3. How can I set up two-factor authentication (2FA)?

Halaxy makes it really easy for you to set up your preferred two-factor authentication method.

You have the option to have your access verified via email (free), via SMS (currently free) or using the Google Authenticator app for iOS or Android devices (free).

Follow the steps below to enable two-factor authentication for your practice:

1. Click Settings > Users;
2. To edit your Authentication Preferences, locate your user details and click on the cogwheel symbol;
3. Select SMS, Email or Google Authenticator;
4. Click Validate.You can also set up different verification methods for yourself and other individuals in your practice.

Note: If someone in your group has connected Halaxy to Xero, you'll also be prompted to choose a two-factor authentication method the next time you log in.
